Junior Bushcraft Party: Ages 8-16
Duration: 3 Hours
Ideal for Birthday Parties, Schools, Youth Clubs, Scouts and Guides
Arena has extensive experience of running innovative and rewarding corporate bushcraft and survival team building events. But why should the adults have all the fun?
The party will mainly cover:
Safe use of knives, axes and saws (depending on age) You will need something to hold your food over the fire to cook it – fingers not recommended.
Including spark, friction and solar (summer months) plus responsible collection of wood taking into account the environmental and ecological impact. Did you know that you can use dried cow pats for a fire?
Cooking your own food over the fire! The best part!
We will supply sausages and marshmallows for this. Parents should provide any specialist food for those who have particular dietary requirements. The finished articles can be eaten around the camp fire or as part of a picnic in the undercover area on site.
If time the party will briefly look at:
Introduction to orienteering and navigation using traditional methods such as:
- The sun
- Bias of natural tree growth and observation of nature i.e. where does the moss grow best?
- Correct use of a compass and OS map. Forget the Sat Nav and mobile phone and find out how they have done it for hundreds of years.
- Camp Building. Introduction to basic shelter building using both available natural and scavenged man made materials. It could help to keep you safe, warm and dry in the future or even save your life.
Strict attention has been paid to the development of a safe environment for activity programmes. Arena Pursuits provides one marshal per group to undertake marshalling duties, and we require 2 ADULT helpers to every group of 8 juniors to act as "another pair of eyes” and help supervise some of the activities.
There is no charge for adult supervisors.
Where are we?
ARENA PURSUITS is located near Flimwell in East Sussex (21 miles south of the M25). It is half a mile from the main London-Hastings road, and is within easy reach of London and all the major centres in Sussex, Surrey and Kent. The site is in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty overlooking Bewl Water.
All participants must bring sturdy footwear and warm, waterproof clothing, and a complete change of warm kit - THIS IS ESSENTIAL THROUGHOUT THE YEAR! During winter months hats and gloves are a MUST.
